# Sierra and Stripe Bring Payments Into AI Voice Calls

The new Stripe integration lets a customer pay during the same support call, while keeping card entry separate from the conversational agent.

Sierra announced a Stripe partnership on October 20, 2026, allowing businesses to connect their agents to Stripe and complete payments during a voice call. The new integration reduces the need for a separate payment link or custom connection. Its important design choice is what the agent does not receive: raw card details.

## What the Sierra and Stripe integration adds

According to [Sierra's announcement](https://sierra.ai/blog/from-conversation-to-payment-sierra-and-stripe), the company is now listed in the Stripe App Marketplace. Businesses can connect an agent to their Stripe account without building a one-off integration.

Cedar is an early example. A caller can ask about a bill, enter payment details through the telephone keypad and receive confirmation in the same conversation. Sierra says 71.3% of calls in which patients start a payment with Cedar's Kora agent end in a successful payment.

That is a specific vendor-reported completion measure. It is not the percentage of all support calls that produce payments, and the announcement does not provide a comparable baseline or enough detail to attribute the result solely to AI.

The [Stripe marketplace listing](https://marketplace.stripe.com/apps/sierra) is the integration's destination. The launch does not publish a standalone price for the partnership, a complete regional availability matrix or a detailed deployment checklist. Teams should establish those terms before budgeting for a rollout.

## How the payment flow works

The agent handles the conversation until the customer wants to pay, then moves into a separate secure payment mode. Keypad-entered card details go to Stripe for processing. Once payment completes, the agent returns to confirm the outcome and continue helping.

This builds on a capability Sierra described in its [April 7 payments release](https://sierra.ai/blog/payments). That earlier system separated sensitive card capture from the conversational platform, using keypad entry for voice and embedded forms for chat. The agent received transaction status and limited information such as the last four digits rather than the raw card number.

Sierra also described a predetermined, server-validated sequence during secure payment mode instead of model-generated prompts. The October announcement is therefore a new Stripe integration and distribution route, not the first time Sierra has supported payments.

The boundary is useful engineering. A conversation model can help someone understand the next step without needing access to every field required to execute it. Reducing the data exposed to the agent also reduces the places where a team must reason about that data appearing in prompts, traces or downstream tools.

## What teams should evaluate

For a support operation already using Stripe, the interesting question is whether the integration removes a real point of abandonment. Measure the journey from payment intent to confirmed transaction, and keep unsuccessful payments separate from callers who decide not to proceed.

Failure paths deserve as much attention as the successful demo. A deployment review should check how the experience handles a declined card, a caller abandoning keypad entry, a lost connection and a delayed payment confirmation. Those are evaluation questions, not claims that the new integration already resolves every case.

A marketplace connection can reduce integration work, but it does not replace a review of authentication, permitted actions, recording configuration and operational responsibility. The useful outcome is a payment flow whose status the agent can explain accurately, even when the transaction does not complete immediately.

The broader product lesson is practical: a more capable agent does not need more access at every step. Sometimes the best way to finish a task is to move a sensitive operation into a narrower system and return only the result.
