Ollie AI Is Shutting Down November 6: Data Exports and Refunds

The personal assistant's founder has announced a shutdown, leaving users with a short transition window and some unanswered questions.

Ollie will shut down on November 6, according to an October 30 announcement from founder Bill Lennon. The company says users will receive information about exporting their data and refunds. Anyone relying on the personal assistant should now check those notices rather than assume their information will remain accessible.

Why Ollie is shutting down

In his public announcement, Lennon said the small team had come close but could not keep up. He named Muse, Instinct and other entrants as making it harder to differentiate, grow and raise the capital needed to continue.

That is the founder's explanation, not an independently established account of the company's finances. It also does not show that demand for personal assistants has disappeared. A product can have useful capabilities and satisfied users without finding a sustainable way to reach enough people.

For this category, continuity becomes part of the product. Someone using an assistant for everyday organization is depending on more than the quality of an individual answer. They are also depending on the service being there when they need information again.

What Ollie users should know about exports and refunds

Lennon's follow-up message says users should receive notifications explaining data exports and refunds, with questions directed to hello@ollie.ai.

The public posts do not specify an export format, refund amounts, eligibility rules or payment dates. They also do not establish a separate deadline for data deletion. The November 6 shutdown date should not be treated as a complete data-retention policy.

The practical next step is to read the company's instructions and preserve information that would be difficult to reconstruct. If an export becomes available, check that it contains the records you actually need and that you can open it outside Ollie. Downloading a file and having a usable record are different things.

For any important arrangement involving another service, verify its status with that service directly. An assistant's shutdown notice does not, by itself, tell you whether an underlying booking, reminder or connected account has changed.

The question this raises for personal AI assistants

Moving to another assistant may solve the immediate access problem, but it does not automatically preserve the context that made the old one useful. A conversation archive can be readable without being something another product knows how to import.

That distinction is worth considering before giving an assistant more responsibility. Can you retrieve the information it holds? Does important activity remain visible in the underlying calendar, reservation service or other system? Can you continue a task without the assistant's interface?

These are product-design questions as much as user precautions. The more an assistant becomes part of someone's routine, the more useful clear export and handoff paths become. A polished interaction can earn initial trust; a dependable way to leave helps make that trust reasonable.
