Google AI Mode Ads Expand to 10 More Countries: Availability and Advertiser Controls

Google is bringing conversational search ads to more markets, but advertisers still cannot isolate AI Mode as a separate channel.

Google announced on October 28 that it is expanding ads in AI Mode to 10 more countries and launching ads across follow-up questions in the US. For advertisers, the important change is where existing campaigns can appear, rather than a new campaign type to buy.

The expansion creates another place for a customer to encounter a product while working through a question. It also makes a familiar measurement problem more important: reaching someone inside an AI answer does not automatically tell a business how that placement performed.

Where Google AI Mode ads are expanding

Google's announcement names Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Singapore. Brazil, Mexico and the UK are planned for later in Q4 2026, not included in this newly announced rollout.

The US change is separate. Multiturn ads allow sponsored placements in follow-up queries, so an advertising opportunity need not end after the first question. Google says the placements remain labeled Sponsored.

A founder researching a tool might begin with a broad workflow problem and then ask about a specific integration or constraint. The follow-up can express a much clearer purchasing need. That is why the position within a conversation matters, even if the product being advertised has not changed.

How advertisers participate

According to Google's advertiser documentation, eligible Search, Shopping and Performance Max campaigns participate automatically through the existing auction. Advertisers do not need a separate campaign or budget. The documented language is English; Pakistan is limited to text ads.

Targeting affects the kinds of questions an ad can match. Exact and phrase match can serve against direct commercial intent. AI-powered targeting can also use the context of the question and AI response for exploratory queries.

There is no separate AI Mode-only targeting switch or opt-out. Performance is included in standard campaign and search-term reporting rather than isolated as a distinct channel. Normal auction billing applies, with no extra participation charge.

That makes a clean evaluation harder. If campaign conversions improve after the rollout, the aggregate report alone does not establish that AI Mode caused the improvement. Teams should avoid presenting ordinary campaign movement as a measured return from conversational search.

Paid placement is different from an organic citation

Google says buying ads does not influence its organic AI responses. A sponsored result and a citation in an answer are different distribution mechanisms, even when a reader sees both in one interface.

For a technical business, this means paid acquisition cannot replace a clear explanation of the product. An ad can introduce the offer, but the destination still needs to answer the question that brought the reader there: supported integrations, deployment requirements, pricing or the limits of a feature.

I would treat the expansion as a reason to review that handoff, not as evidence that every company needs a new AI-search budget. The useful question is whether someone arriving from a detailed conversation can find an equally specific answer on the landing page.

Conversational ads create more moments to reach a potential customer. Clear measurement and a useful destination still determine whether those moments are worth paying for.
